| Post subject: | Bracewood quantity estimate for one guitar |
I was wondering on average how many inches of bracing material is used on lets say an OM shape. Is it 4" about or should I order more for waste and deflection test to choose the best options? The brace wood I'm looking at is 3/4" in thickness |

Hi David, when I was selling bracewood I always suggested 4" per guitar and I never heard that it was not enough so you should be good. But if you plan on making more guitars then get a bit more and process a bunch into finished widths (1/4" or 5/16" which ever you prefer) and leave them around for as long as you can so they are fully acclimated when you are ready to use them. Remember a few thicker pieces for the upper bout braces and back braces if you use spruce them as well. Shane |

that is plenty I can get a set out of 24 in by 2 in stock for Martin style bracing. |

I think I could get a complete guitar out of Shane's standard block of brace material. That's including back braces, too. I'm not sure what the new High Mountain guys are shipping, but I have to imagine it's pretty similar. It comes down to thoughtful processing. If I cut it into 1/4" strips, two would be X arms, two would be lower face + finger braces, and four would be back braces. That left me plenty to cut the upper transverse. |

Got some yesterday! It is georgeous! Perfectly straight, vertical grain on every piece. |
